FA Respect

Backwell Athletic are supportive of The FA’s Respect codes of conduct for parents/carers. We want to raise awareness of the important role parents and carers have in supporting children and young people’s sporting development and their and other children’s enjoyment of sport.
The key messages to remember, to help children have a positive experience are:

  • Focus on what your child wants to get out of sportfor the vast majority it is about fun, enjoyment and friendship
  • Be the best role model you can beIf you’re positive and encouraging they’ll enjoy and perform
  • Help your child achieve their potentialSupport positively. When players make a mistake offer them encouragement not criticism
  • Be respectful of other children and coaches - Let coaches do their job, don’t confuse the players by telling them what to do and appreciate good play from all teams
  • Communicate with the coach and club - Know who to speak to if you have a query or concern and how to get in touch with them

We encourage you to read the FA's concise document on Respect which is attached to this article.

The Child Protection in Sport Unit also provides some excellent resources to support you in this area - view the CPSU site here
